Greek Orphanage

The Prinkipo Greek Orthodox Orphanage Building is one of the biggest remaining wooden structures in Europe and an interesting landmark of Büyükada. Originally erected in 1898 as a five-star hotel, the building has never functioned for this purpose, and then it was handed to the Ecumenical Patriarchate and turned into an orphanage for Greek Orthodox children. There were thousands of children living in the building before it was closed in 1964. Now the building is closed for tourists.
