Ari Burnu (First Anzac Landing Place)
About Ari Burnu (First Anzac Landing Place)
Ari Burnu, located just north of Anzac Cove on Gallipoli Peninsula, was a key landing site for ANZAC troops during the 1915 campaign.
This area was a main landing zone of troops for the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps during the Gallipoli Campaign on 25 April 1915.
It is famous for its formidable landscape and violent first landing fighting. The soldiers encountered many difficult challenges such as steep cliffs and formidable Ottoman opposition.
Despite the adversities, the location became a mark of courage and struggle for both sides of the battle.
Today, the Ari Burnu Cemetery honors fallen soldiers with rows of white headstones facing the sea.
It remains a quiet, powerful place of remembrance, reflection, and national memory for generations from Australia, New Zealand, and Turkey.
