Istiklal Street

About Istiklal Street

Istiklal Street is a lively avenue in Beyoglu district of Istanbul, starting from Taksim Square and reaching out to Galata area.

Known for its 19th-century buildings, embassies, and art nouveau facades, it reflects the city’s multicultural background.

It is one of the most crowded areas of the city because of its central location, shopping options and art exhibits. For that reason, it serves as the centerpiece in regard to art and commerce.

Istiklal Street is lined with shops, cafes, bookstores, and art galleries, and is crossed by a historic red nostalgic tram.

Istiklal remains a central part of Istanbul’s social and cultural life, day and night.
