Sourp Khach (Armenian Church of the Holy Cross)
The Church of the Holy Cross, a stunning example of 10th century Armenian architecture, lies on Akdamar Island.
It was built by King Gagik I and served as a cathedral during the medieval Armenian kingdom of Vaspurakan.
The vivid reliefs depicting biblical stories, various saints, and other symbolic figures carved on the church are breathtaking.
Although it has stopped functioning as a church, today it serves as a cultural monument.
People visit not only for the architecture and craftsmanship, but also the lake's beauty and the church’s rich heritage.
