Frontinus Street

About Frontinus Street

Frontinus Street was the main artery of Hierapolis, stretching from the Domitian Gate to the city’s heart.

It was named for the Roman governor Frontinus and is a very well-preserved roadway from the first century AD that served as the main thoroughfare of the city.

This grand colonnaded street was lined with shops, fountains, and monumental buildings, serving both as a commercial hub and ceremonial path. A well-preserved sewage and water system ran beneath it, reflecting Roman engineering.

Today, its wide stone-paved road and standing columns offer a vivid walk through the daily and civic life of ancient Hierapolis.
