German Fountain

About German Fountain

The German Fountain is a neo-Byzantine style monument located in Sultanahmet Square in Istanbul. It was a gift from German Emperor Wilhelm II to the Ottoman Sultan during his visit in 1898.

The octagonal fountain has a dome supported by eight marble columns, with gold mosaics decorating its ceiling.

It was built in Germany, then transported and assembled in Istanbul. Today, it stands as a symbol of late 19th-century diplomatic ties between the German Empire and the Ottoman Empire.
