Ihlara Valley
About Ihlara Valley
Ihlara Valley is a deep, green canyon carved by the Melendiz River in Cappadocia, stretching for 14 kilometers through cliffs lined with rock-cut churches and hidden dwellings.
Along Melendiz River, there is a green landscape and walking paths running through the canyon.
Formed by volcanic activity and erosion, the valley was a retreat for early Christian monks, who built frescoed chapels into the stone.
Today, visitors hike along riverside trails shaded by trees, discovering ancient sanctuaries and scenic beauty in one of Cappadocia’s most peaceful landscapes.
