Besikli Cave
Besikli Cave (Antioch) is a rock, cut necropolis of the ancient times located near Antakya and mainly used in the Roman period.
Limestone cliffs in which the cave is carved contain several burial chambers and tombs niches, illustrating the funerary traditions of ancient Antioch.
This site was once a part of the extensive necropolis area of the city lying outside the city center.
As a Roman Antioch close to Antakya, Besikli Cave provides an insight into the burial customs, the concept of the afterlife, and the diverse urban nature of Roman Antioch.
