Hadrian's Nymphaeum

Hadrian’s Nymphaeum in Sagalassos, near Burdur, is an extraordinary Roman fountain constructed in honour of Emperor Hadrian.

This elaborately decorated fountain once spilled forth water from mountain springs and served a variety of both practical and ritual functions.

The nymphaeum's architectural pillars, statues and marble surface testify to the beauty of the city, and the Roman obsession with water worship.

Although archaeologists have only partially restored the Nymphaeum, the structure is still a testament to life, beauty, and imperial authority amongst the ruins of ancient Pisidia.
