Hagia Sophia of Nicaea

The Hagia Sophia of Nicaea is a historic building located in what is now Iznik and which once was Nicaea.

It was originally built in the 6th century as a Byzantine church and became world famous as the location of the Seventh Ecumenical Council in 787 A.D.

Following the Ottoman conquest, it was converted to a mosque. The building shows both Christian and Islamic history through its construction.
