Iznik Archaeology Museum

Iznik Archaeology Museum is located in a building which used to be an Ottoman soup kitchen (imaret). It dates back to the 14th century.

You can look at the excavated items from ancient Nicaea and its surroundings here. The museum displays a variety of materials, such as Roman sarcophagi, inscriptions, reliefs, architectural fragments, and objects from daily life that illustrate civic, religious, and funerary practices.

It's great that there are also outdoor exhibits for the visitors to view large stone artifacts in the garden.

This museum in Iznik gives you a perfect understanding of the city's Roman and Byzantine historical background.
