Kadifekale

Even in modern times Izmir remains one of the busiest cities in Turkey and there is nothing more magnificent than visiting its ancient ruins that date back as far as 3000 years ago.

Kadifekale is one of such masterpieces. Kadifekale was once a powerful monarch’s fort used for protection over the ancient region of Smyrna.

Archaeological finds within its perimeter date back to the Hellenistic period, where it served as a settlement along with serving as an epicenter of political power in the region along with Roman and Byzantine control periods.
