Kayakoy (Ghost Village)
Kayakoy, also known as Ghost Village, lies in the hills near Fethiye and tells a silent story of history and exile.
Established in the eighteenth century, this settlement became a good Greek Orthodox community until the Greco-Turkish War and the 1920s population exchange left it abandoned.
With buildings, churches, and streets still intact, this all-but-stone community is chilling yet enlightening to glimpse through.
Today, over 300 empty stone houses, chapels, and schools remain, weathered by time.
Surrounded by pine forests, Kayakoy is a haunting yet peaceful place that reflects loss, memory, and resilience.
