Obelisk of Theodosius

The Obelisk of Theodosius is an ancient Egyptian monument standing in Sultanahmet Square in Istanbul.

Originally erected in the 15th century BCE by Pharaoh Thutmose III, it was transported to Constantinople in the 4th century CE by Roman Emperor Theodosius I.

The granite obelisk is carved with hieroglyphs and mounted on a marble base decorated with reliefs showing the emperor and his court. It is one of the oldest surviving monuments in the city and a key remnant of its Roman past.

Today, it is one of the most visited monuments in Sultanahmet Square gracefully.
