Roman Theatre of Nicaea

Roman Theatre of Nicaea was constructed in the 2nd century AD during the time of Emperor Trajan and shows the cultural life of the city under Roman rule.

It was built on level ground instead of a hillside, hence the theatre needed advanced engineering and after earthquakes it was used as a quarry.

Findings show seating tiers, stage buildings and inscriptions which announce the public performances and other civic events.

Situated in Iznik, the theatre is a representation of Roman city planning and entertainment culture in ancient Nicaea.
