Saint Pierre Church
Saint Pierre Church, located on the rugged hills of Antakya (ancient Antioch), is one of the oldest Christian Churches in the world.
It is a cave church and dates back to the 1st century AD, when disciples of Jesus who were first referred to as “Christians” in this region, met in concealment.
It was later modified by Crusaders and Ottomans and now stands as a place of pilgrimage and as a museum.
The church is a poignant emblem of early Christianity in Turkey, which alongside its simple stone altar, is decorated with ancient frescoes.
