Tarsus

Tarsus is among the oldest cities in Anatolia and one of the oldest that has been continuously inhabited. It is located in the Cilicia region, which is fertile and located near the Mediterranean.

The city flourished during the Hellenistic and Roman times, and became considered a major center for trade, learning, and culture.

It is also considerably important for early Christian history, as Tarsus is the birthplace of Saint Paul the Apostle. The city has also preserved ancient streets, gates, and places of worship that show the city`s multilayered f Roman, Byzantine, and Islamic heritage.

Currently, the city still shows a long and complex history of major commercial, religious and strategic importance.
