Tarsus Cleopatra Gate

Cleopatra Gate in Tarsus is the only one from the ancient city gates of Tarsus that has survived. It was, however, traditionally associated with the visit of Cleopatra VII to the city in 41 BC.

The gate was constructed in the Roman period when it was one of the city entrances from the south and a symbol of the city as a political and commercial center.

Though the story of Cleopatra is a fairy tale, the gate is a fine example of Roman city planning and defensive architecture.

It is situated in Tarsus and remains a significant monument of the city's ancient history.
