Tatlarin Underground City

Tatlarin Underground City is one of the stunning underground cities of Cappadocia. Situated beside Acıgol in the Nevsehir region, it exemplifies Turkiye's unique historical architecture.

It was opened for visitors in 1991 and has remained a vital part of Turkiye’s cultural tourism ever since. These ancient underground dwellings begin with 15 meter long tunnel which leads to large rooms that are connected to each other with narrow twisting passageways meant for defensive purposes.

Some site specific attributes include L-shaped toilets, designated areas for storing food, and a remarkable church embellished trough the 13th century religious imagery frescoes.

Skeletons from the Roman Era indicate that it was used a tomb for some time before being transformed into a Byzantine structure.

Currently, there are still two floors available for exploration but work is being done on more sections to be fully accessible through further restoration efforts.
