Temple of Apollo in Didyma
Located near the contemporary town of Didim, the Temple of Apollo in Didyma served as one of the chief oracle centers of the ancient world, second only to Delphi.
Pilgrims seeking divine answers were drawn to the temple’s towering columns constructed in the Ionic style, as well as the sacred spring that was present at the temple.
Even though the temple was never completed, it is a “breathtaking ruin” that reflects the artistic mastery of the Hellenistic era. In addition to its artistic features, the temple demonstrates the awe-inspiring religious influence and vibrancy of the period.
The scale of the construction is remarkable and speaks to “where myth and stone” still communicate even in the modern age.
