Yazilikaya

Yazilikaya is an open air Hittite rock sanctuary near Hattusa which was used for religious and royal ceremonies during the 13th century BCE.

It features lavish reliefs depicting Hittite deities, such as the storm god Teshub and the sun goddess Hepatu, which are carved into the natural limestone walls of the sanctuary.

Yazilikaya has two main chambers which house more divine imagery that depict the ancient Hittite royal and cosmological ideologies.

Yazilikaya is remarkable in its preservation and still today stands as a sacred Ancient Anatolian site where rock and spiritualism intertwine.
