Meeting your guide in the hotel lobby, you will embark on a 2-hour drive to Iznik (Nicaea), the historic capital of many civilizations, from Bithynia to the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires.
Upon arrival, you will begin with the The City Walls and the Gates of Iznik, originally constructed in the 4th century and later reinforced by the Romans to protect this ancient city.
Next, you will visit Iznik Archaeology Museum, which houses artifacts dating back 8,500 years, spanning from the Neolithic era to the Ottoman period.
Then, explore the ruins of the Roman Theatre of Nicaea, once used for gladiator fights and public performances for over two centuries.
Afterward, enjoy a relaxing lunch break along the scenic shores of Iznik Lake.
Finish your tour with famous Hagia Sophia of Nicaea, one of the three historic Hagia Sophia churches in Turkey, alongside those in Istanbul and Trabzon. This remarkable site hosted the Second Council of Nicaea in 787 CE. Originally a Byzantine church, it was later converted into a mosque and today reflects the city’s rich spiritual heritage.
