Altar of Zeus
Constructed in the second century BCE, Pergamum’s Acropolis housed the Altar of Zeus which focused on the worship of Zeus and Athena.
Like the rest of the city, the altar’s lavish giant frieze depicting gods and giants in combat demonstrated incredible artistic prowess, as well as political power.
Although the remains of the Altar were relocated to Berlin, the base still remains at Bergama, providing a scenic overlook.
The altar serves as a historical landmark which preserves Hellenistic achievements, devotion, and storytelling.
