Ashkenazi Synagogue
Ashkenazi Synagogue is the only active Ashkenazi synagogue in Istanbul, located near Galata Tower in Karakoy district.
Founded in 1900 by Jews of Austrian descent, it reflects European-style architecture with its triple-arched facade and intricate interior.
Still in use today, it hosts daily prayers, Shabbat services, and weddings. Unlike most synagogues in Turkey, it follows Ashkenazi traditions, offering a unique glimpse into Istanbul’s diverse Jewish identity.
Visitors can attend with prior permission, and services are open to the public on certain days.
