Bulgarian Church of Sweti George

The Bulgarian Church of Sweti George located in Edirne is one of the few Orthodox churches built in the 19th-century and built in 1880 by the Bulgarian local community, it is an Orthodox church.

It is situated where the Tunca River ebbs and flows close to the banks. The church has a wooden interior, a wooden iconostasis and a quiet courtyard.

The edifice fell into disrepair over many years until its detailed restoration and reopening in 2004 is an emblem of the city of Edirne's multicultural past.

This calm church with its humble designerly elegant architecture and spiritual charism is suggestive of the once thriving Bulgarian Orthodox heritage in Edirne.
