Citadel of Ani

Located in Kars, Turkey, the Citadel of Ani is a 7th century (Kamsarakan dynasty) fortress that marks the peak of the medieval glory of the city.

It later became a dwelling place for the Bagratid kings.

Within the fortifications, one can find remnants of royal palaces, ancient churches, and an array of defensive structures, showcasing the blend of Armenian, Byzantine, and Islamic architecture which is often referred to Ani's Citadel.

It is part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites and It is a window into the era when the multicultural crossroads along the Silk Road flourished.

Tourists can wander the ruins and reminisce the once prosperous city of Ani.
