Coruh Valley
Located to the northeast of Turkey, Coruh Valley is a captivating region with a river-shaped gorge formed by the Coruh River, extending from the Mescit Mountains to the Black Sea, located near Batumi.
This region is one of the world's best destinations for white water rafting , with rapids that reach up to Grade 5 during the spring snowmelt season, drawing in tourists from all over the world.
In addition to tourism, the valley harbors over 100 plant species which are considered to be endangered along with many birds and mammals that are endemic to the region.
However, construction of electric hydro dams, especially the Yusufeli Dam, poses a big threat to the ecological balance, as well as the local population.
In spite of all these threats, the valley of Çoruh is still particularly famous for the mixture of adventure and natural and cultural sightseeing.
