Mor Gabriel Monastery

Mor Gabriel Monastery or Deyrulumur is located close to Midyat and dates back to 397 AD. It is the spiritual crown of Tur Abdin.

The monastery is constructed of light colored limestone and contains chapels, tombs of saints, and a dome in Byzantine style which embraces early Christianity.

As the oldest active Syriac Orthodox monastery, Mor Gabriel is a guide of monastic traditions, sacred services, and ancient endurance.

Mor Gabriel has been a nurturer of faith, language, and culture in the heart of mesopotamia for over sixteen centuries.
