Tigris River

Tigris River is one of the features which make Mesopotamia habitable.

It traverses from Taurus Mountains in southeastern Turkey, through Iraq, joins Euphrates and finally empties into the Persian Gulf.

In Turkey, the river enriches ancient cities such as Diyarbakir and Hasankeyf which are steeped in centuries of history.

Along its banks, early civilizations including Sumerians and Assyrians emerged.

Tigris continues to bring life to the region’s agriculture and water supply and serves as a cultural link between the past and present through its ever-changing this geographical area.
