Temple of Apollo in Hierapolis
Temple of Apollo in Hierapolis was a sacred site which was devoted to the god of prophecy and light, Apollo.
The temple was built over a deep fault line, and it stood almost on top of the adjacent Plutonium, which is reportedly an exit to the underworld.
Its ruins, dating from 3rd century BCE, include a raised dais and stone stairs, a mix of Greek and Roman building styles.
Though nothing is left but fragments, the temple is the religious hub of Hierapolis, a once vigorous Phrygian-Roman metropolis.
