Selime Monastery

About Selime Monastery

Selime Monastery is the largest rock-cut religious complex in Cappadocia, carved into the cliffs at the end of the Ihlara Valley.

Dating back to the 8th century, it includes chapels, monks’ quarters, a cathedral-sized church, and even stables. This ancient church was cut into the volcanic rock and contains impressive tunnels and chambers.

With sweeping views and weathered frescoes, Selime blends isolation, faith, and raw geological beauty.

A must-see for anyone interested in history, in order to have a view of the early Christian history of Cappadocia.
