Most of the cruises end up or start from Istanbul, giving visitors a chance to stay multiple days in this historically privileged city. Being the capital of Byzance and the Ottomans it is never enough to see all the major sites in a day.

You should make your mind to decide where to visit if your stay in Istanbul is somewhat short. We recommend you to spend at least 3 days to see the basics but also you may prefer to stay longer if you have extensive time to visit the other destinations in Turkey.

Istanbul Shore Excursions from Istanbul Port Turkey

If you only have a day in Istanbul, most probably you will be heading to the Old City to witness the relics from The Byzantine and Ottoman Times in these shore excursions. Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Basilica Cistern, and the Grand Bazaar are the most popular places to be visited during your daily visit.

This takes all day and requires some walking. The old town is very accessible from the cruise port as you may walk or get the tram for a few stops to reach so it's a recommended tour as shore excursions.

If you stay overnight in Istanbul and have a chance to spare another day for your visits, you still do not have to go too far to see some other stuff as the location of the Istanbul cruise port is very convenient for the second-day tour on your shore excursions.

You can start the day by taking a Bosphorus Cruise to witness the beauties that the strait offers. Once you get off, you may visit the Dolmabahce Palace where the abundance of the Ottomans fascinates visitors.

Later on, a walk on Istiklal Street, the main shopping street, is a must to see the local life. You may walk down to Karakoy and climb up to the Galata Tower on the way. Finally, it is always better to do some shopping in Spice Market before heading to your room.

From the mosque, also you may reach Balat by walking but getting a boat is also preferable.

After wandering around the narrow streets of Balat, you may get to Eyup to take the cable car up to the Pierre Loti Hill where you will enjoy your tea with the beautiful scenery. If you are interested in museums, visiting one of the museums located along the Golden Horn like the Miniaturk or Rahmi Koc Museum is ideal at the end of the tiring day.
