Goreme Open Air Museum
Goreme Open Air Museum is a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Cappadocia, featuring a cluster of rock-cut churches, chapels, and monasteries carved into soft volcanic stone.
Dating from the 10th to 12th centuries, the site preserves vivid Byzantine frescoes depicting scenes from the life of Christ. Once a major religious center, it offers a deep look into the spiritual and artistic traditions of medieval Anatolia.
The museum is one of Cappadocia’s most visited historical landmarks. One of the important spots in it is Dark Church which is well known for its frescoes that remain intact and rich in color because the amount of natural light let inside is limited. And the other spot is Saint Barbara Church with unique frescoes that portray’s early Christian’s artistry.
The complex explores the spiritual and cultural history of the region with well-preserved Early Christian art and architectural specimens.
