Sultanahmet Square
Sultanahmet Square is a historic public space in the heart of Istanbul’s Old City, built over the ancient Byzantine Hippodrome.
Surrounded by major landmarks like the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, and the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum, it reflects layers of Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman history.
The square contains monuments such as the Serpent Column and the Obelisk of Theodosius, remnants of its past as a chariot-racing arena and imperial center.
